Lucy's birthday

Today’s my sister Lucy’s birthday.  She must be having a good one, because she has not replied to anyone’s email birthday greeting.  The previous weekend was our nephew Daniel’s 2nd birthday party in Smyrna.  That kid partied until it was almost dark!  In other birthday news, we drove all the way to Smyrna again (15 miles away) to get a free birthday dinner for Tara at a new-ish Mexican restaurant called Mi Tierra.  It was Tara’s birthday on the tenth and they give you a week’s grace period.  Dinner still ended up costing $26 after tax and tip.  Tara had to study the receipt to make sure we really did get her portion free.  The food has been good there both times we’ve gone, but the service has never been that great.  But then, in at least half of all restaurants we’ve ever patronized the service is almost never very good.

You tell me if this is unreasonable:  I like a waiter who attends to us promptly after being seated, then leaves us COMPLETELY alone after the food arrives (unless we specifically flag them down).  We don’t like them “checking in” every five minutes, usually when I’ve just put something in my mouth.  The food needs to arrive within 15 – 20 minutes after ordering, preferably sooner.  They then need to recognize when we’ve finished eating and bring us the check, and COME BACK within a couple minutes so we can pay it and leave.  So often, they bug the hell out of us until we’re ready to leave, then we can’t find them.  That doesn’t seem unreasonable to me, but so many places just don’t meet that expectation.

In other news, we finally got rid of that damned mouse that had, thanks to our worthless cat, been living with us the past few weeks.  Tara had suggested putting the trap — live catch, because I hate to kill things unnecessarily, and besides, I don’t want dead things in the house, call me crazy — behind the refrigerator, because that’s where we kept hearing him.  It wouldn’t fit between the wall and fridge, so I put it right next to it back there.  Sure enough, it finally worked.  There had been so many false alarms with that trap (it would close by itself), that it was almost a fluke this time that I bothered to step outside before opening it.  As soon as I did, the mouse startled me when it leaped out, landed on the grass five feet below and scurried off into the taller grass next to the fence.  Good riddance!  I hate that mouse-droppings smell they leave behind.

It’s been a couple weeks now since we cancelled our Dish Network subscription.  No cable or satellite TV.  I surprised us both by being the one who missed it the most.  Tara normally watches three times the television that I do, but as soon as it was gone, I felt like I had to have it back.  I’ve been fairly obsessed in getting television on our screen again, first via the Internet, then via the airwaves thanks to an antenna.  Remember those?  This one looks like a spaceship with rabbit ears.  Anyway, I apparently wanted what I couldn’t have.  Typical guy behavior, I think.  I learned something new about myself, I guess:  I’m a typical guy … sometimes.

Today, after a lot of research I finally ordered an outside antenna that will purportedly receive HDTV, UHF and VHF signals.  I was prepared to buy the $60 one at Radio Shack, but this one online (through the Amazon link on Tara’s site) only cost $35 or so.  I used the “super saver” (super slow) shipping to avoid paying for shipping.  Hopefully, once installed we’ll finally  get channels 5 and 17 (CBS and Fox, respectively).  Turns out, most of our favorite shows are on CBS or Fox.  If we were getting 5 and 17 already instead of 2 and 4 like we are now, I would not have bothered with an outside antenna.  We get Telemundo now, too, so I’m hoping to catch the occasional soccer game that I never got through pay TV except during the World Cup.  Maybe I’ll learn Spanish in the process.  :)

People are assholes

Everyone knows that.  But what can you do?  You have to work with them.  So you try and ignore their assholeness as much as possible.  Hell, you might even look for the good in them.  There must be some good in them, right?  You hope so, anyway.

Of course, everyone’s idea of what constitutes an “asshole” will vary.  The more honest among us will admit that they are assholes sometimes, too.  It’s only the most pious or self-deluded or dangerously repressed who think they are never ever assholes.

The job market

When I applied and scheduled an interview for a job at the “financial arm” of the Methodist Church, I knew I was not a right fit for them. After all, I’m not only not Methodist, I’m not even a Christian. When the HR manager called a couple days later to cancel the interview, I had a strong suspicion her excuse was concocted. I’m sure the conversation behind the scenes went something like this:

“When I asked him how he would feel about working in an environment where a prayer is said before and after every meeting, and people have been known to bring a Bible with them, his answer was, ‘I’m not a religious person, but I have no problem with other people practicing their religion … as long as they’re not hurting me.’”

Her boss probably said something sarcastic, like, “How very big of him! But seriously, he’s not a good fit here. Let’s make up an excuse not to interview him.”

“We have to be careful. There are laws against religious discrimination.”

“Right, right. Tell him the position has been filled. That always works.”

“I know, I’ll just tell him the truth without actually saying it. I’ll say, ‘We’ve already got Christian applicants scheduled for interviews who are a better fit for us.’  I just won’t say ‘Christian’ out loud.”  At which point, I’m sure they shared a laugh.

And that’s what she told me when she called. Her premise was that there was a “scheduling conflict.” Only four interview slots were available. As if you can’t simply move things around and squeeze in a twenty minute interview?  Hell, I’ve had plenty of much shorter interviews.

No problem. I wasn’t thrilled about working for a bunch of religious fanatics, anyway. :)

Birther Update — May 16, 2010 (pt 2)

I also read the story at WorldNetDaily, which is just as disappointing as the affidavit.  Its core thesis, which is stated repeatedly, is that said SSN# must have been obtained fraudulently since Obama had NO connection, particularly no family connection, to the state of Connecticut:

http://www.wnd.com/?pageId=152773

Except, of course, that his dad lived there.  Wups!  DARN those fifth-column journalists!  Can’t even run a deranged wingnut website these days without damned college-educated spell-checking commie liberals spoiling your beautiful “facts”.  Oh, for the good old Swiftboat days:

http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/2999618/obama_social_security_number_fraud.html?cat=9

Back to the Daniels affidavit, if you look closely enough at the exhibits you can see that the radioactive SSN#  she is talking about appears to be “042-68-4425″.   So in an attempt to cut right to the chase, I researched this number on my own on that impeccable source, USAPeopleSearch.com, and found out that the number had indeed NOT originally been assigned to “Barack Hussein Obama”.  It had been issued to — are you ready for this? — SATAN!  I know you’re surprised.  And what’s more, it was issued at nightfall preceding Sunday, October 23, 4004 B.C., which (thanks to Bishop Ussher) we all know is the EXACT ACTUAL MOMENT THE UNIVERSE WAS CREATED.  I can’t think that there’s any doubt of ANY kind now about what is going on in the dark corners of American politics.  More to come on this.

In a related matter, Shapeshifter-In-Chief Obama is being tried for sedition AS I SPEAK, in a Harlem church.  Remember that in the 10th amendment the Founding Fathers stated that rights not given to the federal government were given to the states and citizenry.  That means that anyone can hold a trial at any time and convict anyone else of anything they can think of.  This is a time-honored American tradition portrayed in many Hollywood westerns and known in the vernacular as a “kangaroo court”.  I am sharing this information with you to help fight the massive media blackout that is hiding this trial and keeping all the sheeple in ignorance as to what is REALLY happening.  Gee, I wonder what the verdict will be:

http://nesaranews.blogspot.com/2010/05/obama-treason-trials-start-thursday.html

Fortunately, Salon.com is doing their bit for democracy by covering this trial.  And I’m sure they are doing it straight.  Because how could anyone laugh at this kind of thing?

http://www.salon.com/news/politics/war_room/index.html

Keep the faith, fellow birthers.  Remember that the facts have a well-known liberal bias, which is why we refuse to have anything to do with them.  And I’ll keep you all posted.

Birther Update — May 16, 2010 (pt 1)

A couple of days ago I alerted you all to the fact that President Barack Obama is a centuries-old serial-killing vampire, as evidenced by:
the fact that he has used a social security number with a prefix from Connecticut (when he should be using one with a Kenyan prefix); AND/OR
the fact that said number is actually the SSN# of someone who was born in 1890; AND/OR
the fact that he was using multiple misspellings of his name in multiple states with multiple SSN#s; AND/OR
the fact that said number was originally issued to Vinz Clortho, Keymaster for Gozer the Gozarian.
The birtherspace is alive with excitement.  There’s so much evidence of so many different types of malfeasance!   It’s like lunchtime at The Golden Corral!  Why choose?  LET’S SWALLOW EVERYTHING IN SIGHT!

But, let’s not be gluttons.  Since the Snopes team is dragging its feet on this vital and urgent topic, I decided to take it upon myself to investigate this crucial area.  First, in order to help possibly eliminate some of these glorious possibilities, I accessed the affidavit filed by Dr. Taitz’s most recent stooge, I mean one of the two private investigators involved in the SSN# brouhaha, Susan Daniels. Oddly enough, it appears that most of what Ms. Daniels is asserting in her interviews is not in the affidavit, presumably because when you lie under oath you can get in trouble whereas when you lie to WorldNetDaily you get paid extra for it.

In summary, her affidavit (1) lists numerous variant spellings of “Barack H. Obama” at different Chicago addresses and (2) explicitly states that only one social security number is involved.  BORing….

http://www.scribd.com/doc/21193983/DOC-86-2-Keyes-v-Obama-Affidavit-of-Susan-Daniels-Refiled

Interestingly, the name of the malefactor in question is spelled “Barrack” throughout the affidavit.  This COULD just be a typical example of birther illiteracy SORRY I mean birther expression of freedom of speech (which would include freedom of spelling too, wouldn’t it?).  Still, it is a little odd.  Maybe she’s not talking about the president at all, since she never identifies him as such — could it be some other ‘Barrack’ Obama that the affidavit is really about?  And I’m also curious about this “refiled” in the title.  It suggests that the affidavit must be originally from one of Sore-Loser SORRY I meant to say Also-A-Black-Guy-American-Patriot Alan Keyes’ long-ago-thrown-out-of-court-Obama-eligibility cases.  Well, waste not, want not; why can’t birthers recycle too?  It must get awfully expensive having to make up brand-new stuff all the time.  And it’s not like any of these clowns is being picky about what they choose to believe in.  Steve, could you ask your pastor at church tomorrow about the spelling of Barack and the refiled thing, and let me know? because I can’t find out anything from my own minister at the “Church of the Secret Muslim Flying Spaghetti Monster” even though I pay extra in order to have access to Obama’s latest plans for world domination.

Birther Update — May 14, 2010 (pt 2)

About a third of all birthers (who currently constitute approximately 20% of Americans; the same 20% who approved of G.W. as he rode off into the sunset, I guess) approve of Obama and his work to date in office.  (Go figure.  They may be the only ones who do.)  Also, people without high school degrees are twice as likely to be birthers as those with postgraduate degrees.  This constitutes scientific evidence that education turns people into communists, probably by FORCING them to read the Constitution and learn the actual definition of terms like “natural born”:

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-20004463-503544.html

Another one of Orly Taitz’s suits challenging President Obama’s citizenship, plus a “slew of other counts”, has been dismissed.  However, all is not lost; her claim that his signing of the health care bill was unconstitutional was dismissed on a sheer technicality — the fact that the bill had not been signed at the time that she filed the claim.  Curses! foiled again!  But probably Dr. Taitz can re-submit her claim in a more timely fashion.  All birthers wishing to support Dr. Taitz and her various causes should do so by letting her do their root canals:

Birther Update — May 14, 2010 (pt 1)

Now that the unpatriotic commies who run the state of Hawaii have banned repetitive requests for his birth certificate and actually declared PUBLICLY (again) that Obama was born there, it looked like the Forces of Righteousness had received a setback.  But this was only temporary.   Because apparently an alert birther recently discovered that his social security number PROVES that Obama was born in — Connecticut! that well-known hotbed of sedition.  But! also, it appears that THAT SAME SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER was issued to someone born in 1890 in a different state altogether; so THAT could also prove that he is an immortal vampire shapeshifter.  He even could be the original inspiration for the Twilight books (as proof of this, Michelle has frequently been heard to address him as “Edward” and his eyes glow amber, particularly when he is in the company of werewolves).  How can these two facts be reconciled? was he born in Connecticut and therefore has been an American since birth [oops, better scratch that part], or was he born out-of-state in 1890 and therefore is some kind of mysteriously Highlander-type unnatural-born citizen?  Does this sound confused?  That is NOT my fault.

http://news.spreadit.org/obama-social-security-number-president-obamas/

But clever Orly Taitz! she has even hotter data! She found out that Obama HAS USED AT LEAST TWENTY-FIVE SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBERS IN THE PAST.  She discovered this, how?  by searching for names that were spelled similarly to Barack Obama’s.  There are loads of addresses in many different states associated with names similar to Barack Obama’s that he was never even known before to have connections to.  That sort of thing leans one toward the immortal vampire-type theory, doesn’t it?  Just brilliant, Orly; did you become a dentist just so you could sniff nitrous oxide all day? (sing: “cause I’m a dentist…. say ‘aaahhhhh’ “)  This is a breaking story.  I will keep you all posted, unless [brother in-law] Steve prefers to do so himself:

Great flood of May 1-2, 2010

The first two were taken yesterday from Chandler Cove Way in the Hidden Creek subdivision in the Cane Ridge part of Antioch, TN.  You wouldn’t normally see ANY water in these first two pictures.

The next three are from this morning in front of the entrance to the same subdivision.  And the last three are from 4 this afternoon.  The water was back up to the bridge level.
